Guillermo del Toro's 'Julia's Eyes' Movie Trailer | TIFF 2010 Special Presentation

Belén Rueda starred in the Guillermo del Toro produced film The Orphanage, which premiered at the Toronto Film Fest in 2007. Now Rueda is back in another GDT film: Julia’s Eyes, directed by Guillem Morales (The Uncertain Guest). Both films were shot by cinematographer Óscar Faura.

Julia’s Eyes will play as a Special Presentation at the Toronto International Film Festival.

TIFF Synopsis
Julia, a woman suffering from a degenerative eye disease, finds her blind twin sister Sara hanged in the basement of her house. Julia decides to investigate what she feels is a murder case, entering a dark world that seems to hide a mysterious presence. As Julia begins to uncover the terrifying truth about her sister’s death, her sight deteriorates further, until a series of unexplained deaths and disappearances cross her path. The film stars Belen Rueda and Lluis Homar (Broken Embraces).

International Trailer & Stills From Guillermo Del Toro's ‘Julia’s Eyes’

The Spanish trailer for the Guillermo Del Toro produced $7.2 million dollar project Julia's Eyes has been released by TV news station Antena 3 (below). Guillermo del Toro produces via his Cha Cha Cha label in collaboration with Barcelona's production shingle Rodar y Rodar. The two previously worked on The Orphanage.

Synopsis
Julia returns to Bellevue with her husband to visit her sister Sarah, who is near blind due to a degenerative illness for which she has unsuccessfully undergone surgery. When they arrive, Julia finds that Sarah has taken her own life and none of her mysterious neighbors seem to be all that surprised.

Julia has to confront not only the loss of her sister, but also the loss of all hope halting her own impending blindness, as she suffers from the same illness and would appear to be destined for the same end as her sister.

Directed by Guillem Morales, Julia’s Eyes is shot from the POV of the main protagonist, a woman who is slowly going blind while trying to find clues about her twin sisters untimely death.

Lluís Homar (Broken Embraces) and Belén Rueda (The Orphanage) star in the thriller.

Variety reports that UK distribution shingle Optimum Releasing, has picked up the movie for future distribution in Britain.

Focus Features International has taken rights to France, Spain and Latin America; three territories where Spanish-language genre fare or thrillers have notched up substantial B.O. tallies.

Julia’s Eyes is set to be released in Spain on October 29, 2010.
North American distribution and theatrical release dates are unknown at this time.

Variety reports Barcelona's Rodar y Rodar has just started principal photography on Guillem Morales' $10 million thriller Julia's Eyes (Los ojos de Julia) which is produced by Joaquin Padro, Mar Targarona and Guillermo del Toro and financed by Rodar, Focus Features Intl., Spanish broadcasters Antena 3 and TV3 and Catalan state investment org Messfilms.

"Julia's Eyes" reps a re-teaming of del Toro with Focus. The filmmaker's shingle Cha Cha Cha, which he founded along with fellow Mexicans Alfonso Cuaron and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu, has a five picture deal with Focus.

"Eyes" is set for a 2010 Spanish release date. No word on North American release dates yet.

According to Variety, Guillermo del Toro the prolific Mexican multihyphenate who is currently in New Zealand prepping The Hobbit, will produce the dark Spanish-language thriller "Los ojos de Julia", Julia's Eyes along with Barcelona's Rodar y Rodar.

The project, which sees del Toro and the Spanish shingle reuniting after their previous collaboration, The Orphanage, is the latest to draw on the seemingly bottomless well of young genre talent in Catalan capital Barcelona.

Julia's Eyes will be directed by Guillem Morales, who is co-writing along with Oriol Paulo. It will be produced by Rodar's Joaquin Padro and Mar Targarona and co-financed by Focus Features Intl. Belen Rueda (The Orphanage) and Lluis Homar (Pedro Almodovar's Broken Embraces) are attached to star in the film, which tells the story of a woman slowly going blind as she investigates the mysterious death of her twin sister.
