Ew . . . what's that smell?

As her final outfit at the MTV Video Music Awards, Lady Gaga put some meat on her bones -- a Franc Fernandez dress (plus boots, hat, and purse) cut together from what appeared to be slabs of raw meat. The outfit echoed the controversial meat bikini she recently wore for the cover of Vogue Hommes Japan.

After the show, in an interview with Ellen DeGeneres, Gaga tried to explain that the dress was a political statement. Discussing how she'd been escorted to the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles by members of the U.S. military who had been discharged from the service due to the Don't Ask, Don't Tell policy, Lady Gaga said: "It is a devastation to me that I know my fans who are gay ... feel like they have governmental oppression on them. That's actually why I wore the meat tonight."

Vegan DeGeneres, who speaks out on behalf of animal rights, pounced on the topic while keeping her distance from the dress. "It's certainly no disrespect to anyone that's vegan or vegetarian," Gaga responded. "As you know, I am the most judgment-free human being on the earth. It has many interpretations, but for me this evening, it's 'If we don't stand up for what we believe in, we don't fight for our rights, pretty soon we're gonna have as much rights as the meat on our bones."

AT the end of the interview DeGenerous presented Gaga with a kale bikini and grass skirt custom made for her. Maybe the next time she gets the urge to wear a garment fashioned from dead animal carcasses, she'll think twice.

Gesturing to the Japanese Vogue cover (above), she snarled and added, "And I am not a piece of meat." I hate to tell you this Gaga, but we are all made of meat -- no speciesism intended!

"I never thought I'd be asking Cher to hold my meat purse."

That was Lady Gaga's opening statement when she stepped onstage at MTV's Video Music Awards Sunday to receive her Video of the Year award from pop legend Cher.

The meat dress's designer, Franc Fernandez, has yet to issue any statements about his unusual gown -- or confirm whether it was truly made of actual meat -- but he retweeted Cher's compliment: "The way it was cut & fitted to her body was AMAZING ! Meat purse was genius ! As Art piece it was astonishing! No moral Judgement!" Fernandez, who has also dressed Beyoncé and Christina Aguilera, made the diamond headpiece Gaga wore in the video for "Bad Romance," which picked up seven of the singer's eight VMA wins last night.

PETA, was not a fan. The animal-rights advocacy organization quickly issued a statement condemning Gaga for her offbeat sartorial choice. "Meat is the decomposing flesh of a tormented animal who didn't want to die, and after a few hours under the TV lights, it would smell like the rotting flesh it is and likely be crawling in maggots -- not too attractive, really."

After a performing a classy, highly polished waltz number Canadian actress Pamela Anderson and her partner Australian dancer Damian Whitewood were voted off the Dancing with the Stars show in week 7 on Tuesday.

Pamela summed up her DWTS dancing debut with "This has been one of the best experiences in my life and that says a lot. I've had a lot of great experiences," said the double entendre-prone star. Host Tom Bergeron, who noted they'd been trying to get her on the show since the first season, praised her saying, "You've turned me into a 12-year-old boy every week." Pamela and Damian chat about their "Dancing" experience after the jump.

Pamela received a standing ovation as she took her final spin around the ballroom. "I wish everybody well, all the dancers," she said "It was a great experience."


Just days before before being voted off the show Pamela and Damian paid a visit to the office of the Consulate General of Canada in Los Angeles, to deliver an important letter on behalf of PETA to His Excellency Gary Doer who hails from Winnipeg, Canada.

While accompanied by two PETA representatives, the dynamic dancing duo dropped off the letter which requests the Ambassador's help to put an end to the annual Canadian seal hunt. This is the first time Australian dancer Damian had heard of the Canadian seal hunt.

In the clip below Pamela shares details of the seal hunt while enroute to the Canadian Embassy.

"They killed 65,000 seal pups this year, and there's absolutely no market for them," Pam tells Damian. "We think that the Canadian government is subsidizing this for some reason."

Pamela calls the Canadian seal hunt "the biggest embarrassment to Canadians," and adds that hundreds of thousands of seal pelts have been stockpiled, "[so] we're wondering why they're still continuing the hunt."

Pamela adds that there's a ripple effect to this slaughter, with the overall numbers of polar bears dwindling as well since a prime source of their food is seals.

"It's just greedy fishermen trying to make a cash bonus on the side," says Pamela. "It's brutal and it's barbaric. It's 2010; why are we beating baby seals to death?"

During the annual seal slaughter—the largest massacre of marine mammals on Earth—tens of thousands of baby seals have their heads bashed in or are shot. Sealers hook baby seals in the eyes, cheeks, or mouth to avoid damaging their fur. They then drag them across the ice, often while the animals are still conscious.

The seal slaughter is an off-season profit venture for the fishing industry, and it accounts for less than 1 percent of Newfoundland's economy. It is not a subsistence activity for native peoples. Inuit sealing accounts for only about 3 percent of the slaughter. The European Union and the U.S. have banned seal products, and world leaders—including US President Barack Obama, Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, and His Holiness The Dalai Lama—have spoken out against the carnage.

'Dancing with the Stars' | 'Slaughter of the Survivors'

Despite a record number of year-long global protests fueled by celebrities like Dancing With the Stars Canadian actress Pamela Anderson and The Barbi Twins, the annual Canadian Harp Seal Slaughter will commence this upcoming week.

Sealers will be going through and picking off the few pups that have survived the catastrophic ice. Heartbreaking!





According to the HSI Canada website a buyer has commissioned 35,000 seal skins so the boats will be going out for that. Scientist Sheryl Fink, senior scientist of IFAW, Bridget Curran one of the founders of the Atlantic Canada Anti-Sealing Coalition, and other animal rights advocates will be observing the hunt closely to document the cruel "slaughter of the survivors".

Bridget Curran's comment on the Atlantic Canada Anti-Sealing Coalition Facebook Group states that "With Canada launching WTO challenges againt the EU, the Canadian government is insane to allow this to continue. The footage collected by the licensed seal hunt "observers" will be especially damning in light of the "natural" disaster that has befallen seals this year in the northern and southern Gulf."

Canadians have spoken out against wasting taxpayer's dollars on this cruel and inhumane practice which loses millions of dollars annually; dollars which could be spent elsewhere. Pamela Anderson has made several requests for seal hunt information in her ATIP requests (access to information resquest).

Elected politicians continue to turn a blind eye and deaf ear to the very people who were responsible for electing them.

Is Compassion Terrorism?

Compassionate people who speak out about the cruel and inhumane treatment of animals who can't speak for themselves are being labeled as "terrorists". Yes, terrorists! Laws are being rolled out in the United States to instill fear and to prevent people from exercising their right to freedom of speech, all in the name of corporate greed and profits.

Animal rights defenders, environmental and peace activists are being labeled as "terrorists" and "ecoterrorists". What ever happened to the First Amendment? Freedom of speech and freedom of the press? Right wing terrorists are allowed to roam the land freely while individuals trying to stop animal cruelty and suffering are being arrested and imprisoned.

The "war on terror" is trying to instill fear in animal rights activists. Peter Young and Sea Shepherd Conservation Society's Peter Bethune are two victims of this injustice (see story links after the jump). Should we become silent against the atrocities committed against the voiceless?

Today Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper is in D.C., and as the world turns its eyes to Canada for this event, PETA wants to remind everyone of Canada's shameful slaughter of defenseless baby seals. PETA members held a demonstration this morning at the Canadian Embassy to speak up for the hundreds of thousands of baby harp seals who are mercilessly clubbed to death on Canadian ice floes
year after year.

The Associated Press reports that three animal rights activists protesting seal hunting have been arrested in front of the Canadian embassy in Washington.

U.S. Secret Service spokesman Ed Donovan says officers arrested three members of PETA this morning on charges of disorderly conduct, unlawful assembly and failure to obey. The women taken into custody wore white seal costumes streaked in red paint to represent blood.

The protesters crawled onto Pennsylvania Avenue and blocked traffic. When they refused to move officers removed their masks, handcuffed them and carried them to the sidewalk.

About 15 other activists nearby held signs asking Prime Minister Stephen Harper to “stop the seal slaughter.” The group says harp seals are targeted in Canada and wants to send Harper a message as he visits President Barack Obama.

President Barack Obama sees the Canadian seal hunt as "inhumane" and vowed to express his "outrage" during his days as a senator, it was revealed on April 09, 2009 in the Star.

Obama, who has not spoken publicly about the seal hunt since becoming President, vowed in a 2006 letter to animal-rights activists to work with colleagues "to ensure that we take all the necessary steps to express our outrage" with the Canadian government.

"I share your concerns about the Canadian seal hunt," Obama wrote to a member of People For the Ethical Treatment of Animals, or PETA, in the letter, dated April 13, 2006.

"As you know, Canada annually opens its eastern waters to commercial seal hunting. The United States and European Union have been unified in their opposition to the slaughter of seals by passing legislation decades ago to restrict the sale of seal-based products within their borders," Obama wrote.

"I certainly believe in the spirit of these acts; the U.S. should not condone this recent Canadian action."

Pamela Anderson’s Stripping PETA Ad Banned From Airports

A new airport-themed PETA commercial has debuted featuring some familiar friends of the organization — but don’t expect to be seeing this one in the terminals. Yet.

The ad stars Pamela Anderson as a scantily clad airport security guard who strips passengers of leather, fur, and other animal skins. The commercial has been deemed too racy to run by CNN Airport Network. The quirky commercial, titled “Cruelty Doesn’t Fly,” also features comedians Steve-O, Andy Dick, and Carol Leifer, a pair of nude models, and German punk icon Nina Hagen.

Apparently, CNN was worried that kids might see the ad — which features some stripping, nude models’ derrieres, and some playful kissing. PETA, however, isn’t deterred and is attempting to court Richard Branson's Virgin airlines to hopefully run with it. Check it out below:
